kool stuff man, what r ur thoughs on purgatory and what does Eloi, Eloi, Lama Sabachthani mean?

Thanks Adam! That means: “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Jesus quoted that Psalm (i forget which it is right now) when he died on the cross. His purpose for dying was to be a sacrifice for all humanity’s sins, so while he was on the cross, he literally had the whole of mankind’s sins placed on him which caused a momentary separation from God the Father until his death and resurrection. This is how we are able to be justified before God and gain eternal life in heaven. I don’t believe in the Catholic understanding of purgatory, but my thoughts are changing about the afterlife in general. I think that believers in Jesus have a secure place in heaven upon their death, but I’m not sure that nonbelievers have completely lost their opportunity to be saved when they die in this world. The Bible tells us that when Jesus returns there will be a final judgement which will usher in the new age. The Old Testament calls the afterlife Sheol which is place that is clearly not Heaven. I think it’s possible that when men and women die without the security of Jesus’s covering they may still have the opportunity while in Sheol to submit to him and be covered under his sacrifice until the final judgement. These are just my thoughts on the issue; I can’t use the word “believe” at this point, perhaps I’ll write a post and explore the issue further (outside of my head) if I ever get the time, but I should mention that most Christians would disagree with me on this point, and some might even call me a heretic. 10 years ago, I would have felt that way about someone who wrote what I just did!
